Competition history

Karnataka has produced some of the best cricket players from the southern part of India. Its most recent wins were in the 1998/99 season and the 1997/98 season, in which it emerged victorious in its finals against Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh respectively. It also beat the Tamil Nadu cricket team in the Ranji Trophy season of 1995/96. This strong run in the Ranji Trophy was due to the emergence of Rahul Dravid, Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble, all of whom have become long-time players for the Indian national team, being the national team's leading batsman, fast bowler, and spinner in the 1990s and early 21st century. The remainder of its victories were evenly spread in the 1970s and 1980s.

In the Irani Trophy, it has won four times and lost twice against the Rest of India team.

Team showed good performance in 2007-2008 season. As International players had to move in and out of the squad due to their ODI schedules and Test matches clashing, the team could not well adjust with the changes in short period.

A young Karnataka unit performed well in the 2009-2010 season and made it to the finals comfortably. The finals took place in gangothri glades, Mysore where karnataka who had the backing of a charged full house crowd came in with a spirited performance went down to Mumbai by a slender margin of 6 runs. Manish Pandey was the highest scorer of the season with 882 runs from 9 matches.
